The town of Odemira celebrates this Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8, the traditional festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, which also include the celebration of Municipality Day. The festivities are promoted by the Parish of Odemira, with the support of the Municipal Council and the Parish Council of São Salvador e Santa Maria.
On Monday, the program includes the flamenco show "Romeo y Julieta" by the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet, as part of the Festival 7 Sóis 7 Luas, moments of informal cante with All Cante, a concert by Ruben Luz Lameira & Banda Modas Avulso, and the evening ends with fireworks and a dance with Humberto Silva.
On Tuesday, the 8th, municipal holiday, at 11:00 the solemn session of Municipality Day takes place at the Church of Misericórdia, where municipal merit medals will be awarded to António Louçã, former president of the Caixa Agrícola de São Teotónio, and to Deodato Inácio dos Santos, for his work in the areas of culture, education and sport.
The program also includes a social lunch open to the population, a solemn mass and procession in honor of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, and at the end of the day various cultural proposals such as street entertainment, the circus-theater show "The Rock" by Mr. Copini, as part of the Festival 7 Sóis 7 Luas, moments of cante with "Entre Vozes" and a concert by the group "Com Alma".
