The Portuguese authorities, namely the GNR and the Maritime Police, denied on Tuesday that a migrant landing had occurred in Sesimbra, in the district of Setúbal. The information initially emerged as a possible migratory incident, but the security forces clarified that the situation was not confirmed.
The authorities located a suspicious vessel in the coastal area of Sesimbra during a surveillance operation. However, after the procedures carried out at the scene, the presence of any migrants on the vessel or in the vicinity was not confirmed.
The investigation now points to the possibility that the vessel may have been involved in drug trafficking or smuggling operations, criminal activities frequent on the Portuguese coast.
The case is being monitored by the competent authorities, who continue to analyze the circumstances of the vessel's presence in the Sesimbra area, although the hypothesis of a migratory landing has been completely ruled out.
