In Sesimbra, on Meco beach, a fisherman alerted authorities to the presence of a rubber dinghy. The alert indicated that dozens of people had disembarked from that vessel on the beach.
Initially, it was thought that those who disembarked could be migrants, at a time when the topic of immigration is present in Portuguese society.
However, after investigation, the GNR concluded that this was not a case related to immigration, but rather an incident linked to drug trafficking.
The authorities identified the dinghy as an instrument used for transporting illicit substances, clarifying the true nature of the incident that caused alarm in the region.
