DECO PROteste warned of a new scam that uses letters supposedly sent by banks to deceive consumers. The fraudsters send letters with alleged new bank cards and instructions for their activation, asking victims to scan a QR code present in the communication.
This technique is called qrishing, a form of phishing that uses QR codes to direct victims to fraudulent pages. Through these links, the scammers manage to access the personal and financial data of the targeted individuals.
Consumers should be especially attentive if they are notified about the approaching expiration of their bank card and receive a letter with a new card. In these cases, it is recommended to verify directly with the bank through official channels before scanning any QR code or providing personal information.
