The Évora Football Association celebrated its centenary with a day dedicated to football and sport, which featured the presence of the Portuguese Football Federation and other entities. Jerónimo José, vice-president of Évora City Hall, stated that the celebration represents much more than the 100 years of the association's existence, highlighting its contribution to health, physical activity and the connection between the municipality's populations. The councilman also emphasized that the presence of the federation structure gave the celebrations a more national dimension.
During the festivities, a protocol was signed between the Municipality of Évora and the Évora Football Association, which aims to formalize a commitment to continue the joint work already developed in promoting sports practice, namely football. The document also provides for greater coordination with the Portuguese Football Federation for the development of future initiatives in the region.
When questioned about the project to create a football academy, an ambition defended by the association for several years, Jerónimo José admitted that the matter could return to the agenda. The councilman recalled that there was already a protocol related to the matter, but that it was never fulfilled. Despite this, he guarantees that the project is not ruled out, and it remains the ambition of the association and the Football Federation.
According to the vice-president, it will be necessary to revisit the project and evaluate how it can be implemented, possibly in other terms. Jerónimo José believes that the existence of a common will among the entities involved may allow the academy to move forward in the future.
