Mozambique supports 72,000 young people with vocational training scholarships

Jornal Económico6 September 2026 at 18:04

The Government of Mozambique will support 72,000 young people through vocational training scholarships and entrepreneurship initiatives distributed across the country's 11 provinces, under the "Acredita Emprega" program. The ceremony for presenting the beneficiaries took place in the district of Nicoadala, in the province of Zambezia, central Mozambique, with the presence of President Daniel Chapo.

Between March 13 and May 18, 145,400 applications were submitted, resulting in 72,000 selected young people from 78 districts. Of the total beneficiaries, 50,400 are women, corresponding to 70%, while 21,600 are men. Additionally, 14,400 young women will receive a non-reimbursable grant of 100,000 meticais (1,350 euros) for business expansion, accompanied by mentorship services and specialized training.

Zambezia hosts the central ceremony as it is the province with the highest number of beneficiaries, representing 23% of the national universe. The district of Nicoadala concentrates 4,363 beneficiaries, equivalent to 26.3% of those selected in the province. President Chapo called on young people to use the resources productively, emphasizing that the scholarship term represents an instrument to produce and multiply, not a subsidy for consumption.

"Acredita Emprega" is implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and is part of the Project for the Empowerment and Resilience of Girls in Eastern Africa, financed by the World Bank. The program aims to promote employment and self-employment among young people from districts considered vulnerable, addressing challenges such as the weight of the informal economy, difficulties in accessing credit, and the weak link between vocational training and the labor market.

'Brazil needs to lower costs and scale up its logistics,' says Maersk president

Ricardo Rocha, president of Maersk in the East Coast of South America, stated that Brazil needs to reduce costs and expand the scale of its logistics infrastructure to become more competitive. The country ranks among the five largest markets of the Danish company in the world, which operates in the sectors of maritime transport, logistics, terminals and cabotage for over a hundred years in Brazil. Despite challenges such as Chinese quotas and the suspension of beef purchases by the European Union, which impacted cargo transport, Maersk projects growth of its activities in the country in 2026. Rocha highlighted that the company's vertical model — in which the ship, the warehouse and the terminal belong to the same organization — facilitates adaptation and growth of operations in the region.
