Ukraine: Trump's envoys consider "very significant" conversations with Zelensky

Jornal Económico6 September 2026 at 17:46

The envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump to seek to end the war in Ukraine, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, said this Sunday, September 6, that the first talks in Kiev with President Zelensky were "very significant" and allowed them to "learn a lot". Witkoff classified the conversations as "very significant", hoping to "continue this for as long as necessary", according to the France-Presse news agency.

The two White House representatives met with Zelensky for the first time in Kiev, after being received the day before at the Kremlin by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Jared Kushner said the trip opened "new avenues to move forward" and that they learned a lot from the meeting.

After the meeting in Kiev, a session of talks began involving the two U.S. envoys, the Ukrainian delegation, and European Union national security officials. On Friday, Trump had stated that Witkoff and Kushner would bring to Moscow and Kiev "a proposal to end the war" that began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
