The Environmental Education and Protection Program (PEPA) from Portimão Municipal Water and Waste Company (EMARP) is back for the 2026/2027 school year, with activities aimed at educational establishments in the municipality. The program is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the principles of the National Environmental Education Strategy.
PEPA supports teachers and students in addressing essential topics such as water and sanitation, waste management, circular economy and environmental citizenship. The actions are adapted from pre-school through secondary school, favoring participatory methodologies, games, experiments, debates and challenges.
Among the activities, "Our Blue Planet" stands out, dedicated to the natural water cycle, "What if Tap Water Had a Label?", which promotes the appreciation of public water supply, "The Phone That Drank Too Much!", about the water footprint associated with consumption, and "Fashion Clothing", focused on the environmental impacts of the textile industry. The program also includes games and group dynamics for secondary school about the historic center and the riverside area of Portimão.
In the previous school year, PEPA carried out 257 actions, reaching 5,855 students. More information and registrations are available on the EMARP website.
