The number of processes for unpaid tolls has decreased, but it still represents 30% of the offenses opened by the Tax Authority. Currently, approximately two thousand fines per day are issued related to non-payment of tolls in Portugal.
The Tax Authority is the entity responsible for monitoring and opening administrative offense proceedings related to non-payment of tolls on Portuguese roads. This type of infraction remains one of the main categories of offenses handled by this body.
Although the numbers are still significant, the reduction in the number of processes indicates that some measures implemented to combat non-compliance may be taking effect. However, tolls continue to represent an important share of the total offenses managed by the Tax Authority.
