Botafogo awaits Moroccan attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech in Rio de Janeiro after reaching an agreement last week. The contractual terms with the player were settled, but they depended on Ziyech's decision to come to Brazil.
Wydad Casablanca, the Moroccan club Ziyech played for last season, said goodbye to the player this Sunday through their social media with the message: "Some journeys may come to an end, but the memories will remain."
Ziyech, 33 years old, was born in the Netherlands but is naturalized Moroccan. The player has played for several clubs, including Heerenveen, Twente and Ajax in Dutch football, as well as Chelsea-ENG, Galatasaray-TUR and Al-Duhail-QAT.
The best moment of Ziyech's career was Morocco's historic run to the World Cup semi-finals in 2022, when the Moroccan national team reached the final four of the tournament.
