Works are underway on the conservation of the cobblestone pavement along the road surrounding the National Palace of Mafra, an intervention that is affecting traffic in the Terreiro D. João V. The works, which have been urgently needed for many months now, are part of a maintenance and requalification effort for the public space surrounding the monument, having required the closure of vehicle traffic in the area.
The works are part of a 500,000 euro contract, plus VAT, signed in the last week of August by the municipal company GIATUL for the repair of cobblestone roads in the municipality of Mafra. The contract was awarded to the company AECI — Arquitectura, Construção e Empreendimentos Imobiliários, SA, from Milharado, through a public tender, an agreement that has an execution period of 12 months or until all the works included in the bill of quantities are completed.
The recommended alternatives for road traffic pass through Avenida 1.º de Maio, Rua Almirante Gago Coutinho and the remaining roads in the surrounding area. It is advisable to consult alternative routes to avoid inconveniences during the works period.
According to the contract, the intervention includes routine conservation activities, both curative and preventive in nature, with the objective of offering better traffic conditions and pleasantness of routes. The project aims at the execution, maintenance and conservation of cobblestone pavements, in order to create better conditions for both vehicles and pedestrians, offering greater safety and comfort to users of roads, sidewalks and pedestrian areas.
