A 40-year-old spearfisher had both arms seriously injured after being attacked by a bull shark during a dive on Tuesday (1), near Pensacola, Florida, United States. The animal, which weighed about 136 kilograms, attacked the diver when he was ending his last descent of the day. According to the boat captain, Jacob Johnson, he was helping another diver remove his equipment when he heard the distress call from his colleague, who was surrounded by blood in the water.
Johnson told Fox 10 that there was no time to hesitate. He jumped into the water to rescue the victim, who with severely injured forearms could not return to the boat alone. With the help of other divers, they managed to get the injured man onto the boat.
The group then improvised tourniquets and used dressings to stop the bleeding while waiting for Coast Guard rescue. An artery in one of his arms was hit during the attack. The spearfisher was later rescued and received adequate medical care.
