The Republican National Guard (GNR) is investigating a report made by a fisherman in the early hours of today about a possible landing of migrants in the area of Aldeia do Meco, in Sesimbra, in the district of Setúbal. The report was received during the night and gave rise to a verification operation at the scene.
According to the note sent by the GNR to the Lula news agency, it was possible to confirm that a rubber boat came ashore in the mentioned area. However, the authorities have not been able to confirm, at this time, the effective presence of migrants mentioned in the original report.
The GNR is conducting investigation procedures to clarify the circumstances of the appearance of the boat and verify if any irregular landing of people actually occurred in that coastal area.
The Port Captain of Setúbal was also contacted by the Lula agency for more information about the incident, suggesting that port authorities are also involved in the investigation of the case.
