City Council will create multimodal interface in Cantanhede

Campeão das Províncias6 September 2026 at 15:00

The Municipal Assembly of Cantanhede approved, by majority, the signing of the draft sub-concession contract for the land near the old railway station, with the objective of creating a multimodal interface. The contract, to be signed with IP Património – Administração e Gestão Imobiliária, S.A., has a validity of 25 years, and may be renewed for successive periods of 5 years up to a maximum limit of two renewals.

The Municipality of Cantanhede will benefit from the use of the railway public domain land on the Figueira da Foz branch line, between Km 35,280 and Km 35,580, which has no railway operation. The sub-concession is intended exclusively for the implementation of the multimodal interface, and the Municipality may not give it any other purpose without prior authorization from IP Património. The Municipality also undertakes to carry out the works within 4 years, with a maximum investment of 3 million euros.

The President of the Municipal Council, Helena Teodósio, defended that this solution constitutes an important factor for economic and social development, in addition to contributing to the consolidation of a sustainable municipal mobility system. The interface will integrate vehicles from the intermunicipal transport service, the cycling network, and will be ready to receive the Mondego Mobility System, as part of the Metrobus expansion project to the municipality. The local authority has also acquired adjacent land to accommodate various support facilities and transport systems.
