Ferral once again became the stage for the celebration of the Barrosã breed with the holding of the 73rd Livestock Show, one of the oldest and most emblematic initiatives of the Montalegre contest. The event brought together breeders, producers, local community and visitors in a moment dedicated to valuing this breed and recognizing the work of farmers in its preservation.
After the traditional blessing of the animals, the parade and evaluation of the competing specimens followed, a moment when the most outstanding animals were distinguished. The show once again established itself as a space for encounter between generations and for the affirmation of an activity that continues to play a relevant role in the economy and identity of Baixo Barroso.
The 2026 edition was marked by two particularly important moments: the inauguration of the new Multi-purpose Pavilion, an investment of over 200 thousand euros, and the beginning of the requalification of the show grounds. These interventions aim to improve conditions for producers, animals and visitors.
The mayor of Montalegre, Fátima Fernandes, highlighted the longevity of the event and the determinant role of the Ferral community in its preservation, also emphasizing the growing involvement of Barrosã breed breeders as essential to ensure the continuity of this tradition that spans generations.
