This value represents an increase of approximately 4.2% compared to the same period last year, indicating significant growth in the Portuguese tourism sector.

Volta system reinforced with 12 kiosks, including in Albufeira and Portimão

The Volta packaging collection network is to be reinforced with 12 new kiosks in restaurants, cafés and hotels, six of which are already operational in Albufeira, Barcelos, Cascais, Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Vila Nova de Famalicão. The remaining six are in the implementation phase in Almada, Aveiro, Mafra, Oeiras, Portimão and Vila do Conde. These kiosks allow the return of large quantities at once, with capacity to collect approximately 120 beverage containers per minute, meeting the needs of restaurant and hospitality operators. The goal of SDR Portugal, responsible for the Deposit and Refund System, is to reach 50 kiosks across the country.

Work but Receive Little? You May Be Entitled to Social Security Support Even with a Salary

Having a job and receiving a salary does not automatically exclude access to the Social Integration Income (RSI), as long as the household income remains below the legal limits. Social Security considers only 80% of dependent work income when calculating the benefit, which may be only 50% during the first 12 months of a new professional activity. The RSI reference value was updated to 247.56 euros in 2026, with maximum amounts varying according to family composition. In addition to income, there are also limits on financial assets (maximum of 60 times the IAS, or 32,227.80 euros in 2026). The application can be made online or in person. From 31 December 2026, the RSI will be replaced by the Single Social Payment (PSU), which will include a gradual reduction mechanism for support as professional income increases.
