ZAP Notícias6 September 2026 at 11:50

An extreme weather phenomenon hit the parish of Branca, in Albergaria-a-Velha, on Saturday night, with hail of about three centimeters, intense rain and strong wind. The episode began around 8:30 pm and lasted approximately 20 minutes, leaving a trail of destruction in a few instants.

The hailstones caused significant damage in the area, breaking roofs, windows and trees. The president of the parish council of Branca described to the Jornal de Albergaria that it was "20 minutes of stones falling with great intensity".

The phenomenon occurred in a curious context, in a country boiling with temperatures near 40 degrees, which made the fall of ice from the sky particularly unusual. There is no record of injuries or displaced people as a result of the episode.
