A court prohibited almost three years ago the Judicial Police from using assets seized from trafficker Rúben Oliveira, known as "Xuxas". A ruling from the Central Criminal Investigation Court of Lisbon, issued in November 2022, declared void the decision by which Luís Neves, then national director of the PJ, claimed for operational use by the institution about three dozen assets taken from the trafficker's home.
The assets in question include televisions, sofas, chairs and gym equipment. Despite the judicial prohibition, the Judicial Police continues to use these articles without it being clear whether it was ever formally notified of the decision prohibiting their use.
The PJ itself admits not knowing whether it was warned of the prohibition. Luís Neves, who was national director of the Judicial Police, was blocked by the court from his intention to use the seized assets for operational purposes of the institution.
The information was reported by CNN Portugal, which revealed this case that raises questions about communication between courts and the Judicial Police regarding decisions on assets seized in criminal operations.
