The Institute of Mobility and Transport made the "My Driving License" platform available, which allows drivers to check online the data associated with their driving title, including the validity of the different categories and which ones need to be renewed, without needing to go to an IMT counter. After authentication, the driver can verify all information related to their document.
IMT recommends that renewal be requested during the six months before the deadline, and the request can be made through IMT Online or in person at the institute's services, Citizen Spaces, and other authorized locations. Depending on age and the categories held, it may be necessary to present a medical certificate and, in some cases, a psychological evaluation certificate.
For those with old licenses, IMT warns that you should not only look at the date printed on the document. Successive legislative changes have created different calendars depending on the date the title was obtained, so renewal must be carried out according to the legally established ages for each category, regardless of the validity endorsed on the physical document.
Driving with an expired license constitutes a road traffic offense. If the license has been expired for more than two years, additional tests may be required. Between two and five years, renewal may depend on a practical test in a special exam. If more than five but less than ten years have passed, it may be necessary to attend specific training and take a practical test.
