A 2.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Portugal this Sunday morning, September 6th. The epicenter of the tremor was located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Lisbon, in the area of Loures, at a depth of 12 kilometers.
The seismological phenomenon was detected by the stations of the National Seismic Network and no material damage or casualties were recorded. Civil Protection received several dozen calls from citizens reporting the tremor, although many did not feel the vibration due to the weak intensity of the event.
This type of low-magnitude earthquake is relatively common in mainland Portugal, especially in the area of the Tagus Valley fault. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.
