Volcano eruption leaves more than 150 thousand passengers stranded in Indonesia

SAPO Notícias6 September 2026 at 11:23

The eruption of the Anak Krakatoa volcano in Indonesia forced local authorities to temporarily suspend operations at six airports in the region. The decision was made due to the spread of volcanic ashes over large areas, which posed risks to aviation safety.

As a consequence of the airport closures, 467 flights were affected by the situation. The impact on air transportation was significant, leaving more than 150 thousand passengers stranded on the ground, unable to reach their destinations.

The volcanic ashes expelled by Anak Krakatoa spread over large areas, requiring caution from authorities to safely resume operations. The situation caused widespread disruption for thousands of travelers in the region.
