The State of Pernambuco was ordered to pay R$ 150 thousand in moral damages to Anderson Gabriel da Silva, 25 years old, who was wrongfully imprisoned for nine months. The young man was detained in January 2025 during a police stop at Boa Viagem Beach, in Recife, under a preventive arrest warrant issued for another person with the same name, suspected of a homicide that occurred in 2023. Anderson tried to prove his innocence to the police chief, but was ignored and sent to the Criminological Screening and Observation Center (Cotrel), where he remained in the cellblock. The decision was made by Judge Flávia Fabiane Nascimento Figueira, from the Court of Justice of Pernambuco.
