A group of about 30 people is believed to have arrived by boat at Foz beach, in the Meco area. Authorities were alerted to the situation, but the group managed to escape before the GNR and Maritime Police arrived.
The incident occurred in the coastal area of Meco, known for being a location frequented by migrants in attempts to reach Portuguese territory by sea. Security forces initiated searches in the area after receiving the alert.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the nationality of the people involved or the departure point of the vessel. Searches are ongoing in an attempt to locate the members of the group who managed to escape.
This type of irregular arrival by sea has been recurring on the Portuguese coast, particularly in the Algarve region and the Meco area, where several similar attempts have been recorded in recent years.
