The company Pedro e Miguel Metal announced an investment of 1.5 million euros for the construction of a new unit in the Industrial Zone of Oliveira do Hospital, dedicated to the production of modular homes for national and international markets, as well as the manufacturing of metal structures, industrial pavilions, office containers, and mobile sanitary modules. The laying of the first stone ceremony was attended by the president of CCDR Centro, Ribau Esteves, and the mayor of Oliveira do Hospital, José Francisco Rolo.
The investment includes, in a first phase, a pavilion with 1,330 square meters of built-up area and the creation of eight jobs. Miguel Amaro, one of the company's owners, highlighted that modular homes represent a response to the challenges of housing shortage, offering more efficient, modern, and environmentally friendly solutions. In a second phase, within two years, the company plans to expand the facilities with an additional 1,300 square meters.
During the ceremony, Miguel Amaro warned about the need for the completion of the IC6 (Coimbra-Covilhã), considering this connection essential to bring businesses and workers closer to the country's main communication corridors. The mayor of Oliveira do Hospital, José Francisco Rolo, also reiterated that the region's economic development continues to be constrained by insufficient road accessibility, despite Oliveira do Hospital having the conditions to host new investments.
José Francisco Rolo considered the investment by Pedro e Miguel Metal as an example of the municipality's capacity to attract businesses and the confidence of investors in the territory, reiterating the demand for the completion of the IC6, including the junction planned for the industrial zone, which he classifies as a commitment by the State for several decades yet to be fulfilled.
