Municipality supports "growing number of autistic students"

Diário de Aveiro6 September 2026 at 10:00

The municipality of Vale de Cambra will invest more than 40 thousand euros in hiring an occupational therapist to support autistic students in the municipality's schools. The investment aims to respond to the growing number of students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders who attend the educational establishments in the municipality.

The new therapist will follow 42 students who need specialized support. This measure comes as a response to the significant increase in children with special educational needs identified in the municipality.

The investment is part of a broader strategy by the municipality to reinforce support services for students with special needs. The hiring allows ensuring specialized follow-up for the students who need it in the municipality's schools.

CMF: to the Order of Social Workers!

A Madeiran blogger criticizes a competitive selection process for the recruitment of Social Workers at the Municipality of Funchal, arguing that the requirements established by the jury favor candidates with a master's degree in Social Work, but without the respective bachelor's degree, to the detriment of candidates with a basic background in Social Work. The author alerts that the procedure does not require proof of registration with the Order of Social Workers, despite the knowledge test including the statutes of the Order, and questions the jury's competence. He also appeals to the Order of Social Workers to defend its members who were harmed and suggests that the text be sent to the Court of Auditors and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Porto mobility plan with estimated cost of 1.2 billion euros over 10 years

The Porto Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) has an estimated cost of 1.2 billion euros over 10 years, with 75% of the investment destined for the public transport network, including 600 million euros for the metro network expansion. The document, which will be subject to public consultation, divides investments into three main axes: circulation, parking and logistics (176 million), active modes (88 million) and urban system (55 million). The Porto City Council would be responsible for a total investment of 478.3 million euros. Among the main expenses, free transport for residents (213 million), use of the VCI channel (53.5 million) and the redesign of the Circular road (43.2 million) stand out. The plan also identifies that Porto residents value direct connection to the destination more than price for public transport, and that cycling mobility is one of the city's major gaps.
