José António Carvalho revealed that he became a member of SC Vianense at age 13 or 14 with the goal of not presenting himself as Valdemar Carvalho's son. "I became a member so I wouldn't arrive at the entrance and say I was Valdemar's son. I entered as a normal member of the club," he explained. More than 50 years have passed since then.
Before that, José António already lived football at home. His father, Valdemar Carvalho, played for Vianense for years and took his son to training. "I went to watch every game with my mother and, at training, I went with him to pick up the balls behind the goals," he said. The young man thus followed all of his father's routine at the club.
He also played football, but at 18, when he joined AFVC, he was forced to leave the sport. The association's rules did not allow an employee to play for a club, which ended his career as a player.
Vianense continued, however, to be a constant presence in his life. José António recalls bus trips across the North, matches against Limianos, and the best players he saw: Baltazar "Cané," Joaquim Arantes, and, naturally, his father. Today, his wish is simple: "I hope Vianense stays in Liga 3, but I hope to see the club at least in Liga 2."
