A strong thunderstorm hit several locations in the district of Aveiro on Saturday night, causing hail, intense rain and strong winds. The bad weather caused significant damage in the two main affected cities, Albergaria-a-Velha and Oliveira de Azeméis.
Among the main damages recorded are damaged roofs, fallen trees, broken traffic lights and vehicles hit. Several areas of both localities also suffered flooding due to the intensity of the rain.
The meteorological episode was particularly violent during Saturday night, affecting the local population and causing disruption to road traffic. Local authorities will need to assess the damage and clean up the public roads affected by fallen trees and debris.
