Envoys from the United States, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, arrived in Kiev this Sunday after a prior meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The visit marks a new moment in the attempts at negotiation between the two parties to the conflict.
During their stay in Moscow, the American envoys secured a temporary ceasefire in the Ukrainian capital. Russia agreed to suspend attacks on Kiev for a period of 72 hours, as a result of the negotiations.
However, the truce does not extend to the entire Ukrainian territory. Despite the pause in attacks on Kiev, Russian forces continue to carry out military operations in other regions of Ukraine, maintaining pressure on the country.
The trip to Kiev represents the second phase of the American diplomatic mission, which began on Russian soil. The objective of these talks is to find a solution to the conflict that has been ongoing for several years now.
