For every 33 robberies in Rio, only one person is arrested in the act, ISP data reveals

Between January 2025 and March 2026, police stations in the State of Rio de Janeiro received more than 1.3 million reports of all types of crimes, according to data from the Institute of Public Security (ISP). For every 33 robberies recorded, only one person is arrested in the act of the crime, revealing a low resolution rate for this type of offense. The 15-month timeframe was used to allow for a broader data base for analysis.

The most frequent crimes during the period were theft, fraud, and robbery, accounting for four out of every ten reports made at police stations. These three types of crimes lead the ranking of recorded incidents in the state.

However, when analyzing the just over 60,000 adolescent apprehensions and arrests in the act recorded during the same period, the scenario changes significantly. One in four detained individuals was arrested for drug trafficking or association for drug trafficking. Those accused of receiving stolen goods and tampering with vehicle identification signals—the technical term for vehicle cloning—also stand out among arrests. Robbery, theft, and fraud lose prominence in this ranking of detentions.
