Sunday brings less heat and moves away thunderstorms, but Saharan dust continues in the air

SAPO Notícias6 September 2026 at 08:30

After a Saturday marked by the return of atmospheric instability, with showers and thunderstorms in several regions, this Sunday should bring a significant change in the weather in mainland Portugal. The day promises to be less hot and without the occurrence of thunderstorms.

However, the Saharan dust that has been affecting the country in recent days will continue to be present in the atmosphere during this Sunday. This mass of dust from the African desert has kept air quality compromised in various areas of the territory.

The weather forecast thus indicates an improvement in atmospheric conditions in terms of precipitation and temperatures, although the concentration of African sand particles in the air remains a concern for public health and for those suffering from respiratory diseases.
