The crisis at the Supreme Federal Court intensified after the disclosure of messages exchanged between Daniel Vorcaro and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who reacted by requesting an investigation against colleague André Mendonça. Minister Edson Fachin removed the investigation request from the fake news inquiry and determined that both Moraes and the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, should respond.
The tension in the Judiciary increased the pressure on Minister Jorge Messias, from the Attorney General's Office, who is the main option of President Lula for a new appointment to the Court. Lula had been telling aides and in public statements that he would send the name of his ally again for the vacancy of Luís Roberto Barroso, retired for almost a year.
The peak of the crisis opened the possibility that the appointment could be postponed to a second moment, delaying the choice that had been promised by the president. Messias had already been rejected by the Senate in April, in a move orchestrated by the Senate President, Davi Alcolumbre, with the approval of Court ministers, such as Moraes himself.
