IST president archives workplace harassment case, but inspection proposed written reprimand

Público6 September 2026 at 06:30

The president of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Rogério Colaço, archived a disciplinary proceeding related to a workplace harassment case, despite an inspection having proposed a written reprimand for a full professor. The decision was made after eight faculty members had filed a formal complaint against the professor.

Rogério Colaço initially opened the disciplinary proceeding against the faculty member, following the usual procedures after receiving the complaint from the eight professors. However, after analyzing the case, he chose to close the proceeding without applying any sanction to the accused professor.

The inspection that analyzed the case had recommended the application of a written reprimand as a disciplinary measure. This recommendation was not followed by the IST president, who decided to archive the case.

In addition to archiving the case, Rogério Colaço also imposed silence on the eight faculty members who filed the complaint, preventing them from speaking publicly about the matter or from pursuing their allegations with other bodies.
