Jakarta international airport suspends operations due to volcanic eruption

SAPO Notícias6 September 2026 at 06:00

Indonesian authorities announced the suspension of operations at Jakarta's international airport due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatoa. The decision directly affects passengers and airlines operating in the country's capital.

Mount Anak Krakatoa is located more than 150 kilometres from Jakarta, which demonstrates the extent of the effects of volcanic activity beyond the immediate eruption zone. The cloud of ash and particles released by the volcano represents a significant risk to aviation safety.

More than 200 aircraft movements were affected by the suspension of airport operations. This situation causes delays, cancellations and considerable inconvenience for thousands of travellers who intended to use Indonesia's main airport.
