Botafogo fans announced they will display the traditional idol banner in the stands of Nilton Santos Stadium next Sunday during the match against Palmeiras. The action is led by the movement Ninguém Ama Como A Gente.
The banner previously featured the image of Marlon Freitas among the players honored by the fans. However, after the midfielder's transfer to Palmeiras earlier this year, the black-and-white fans organized a vote in January and decided to remove the athlete's image, replacing it with that of former goalkeeper Jefferson.
Marlon Freitas was captain of the team that won the Libertadores and Brasileirão in 2024. He and Luiz Henrique had been elected by the fans themselves as representatives of the victorious team to be added to the club's traditional idol banner.
On social media, on the eve of the match against Palmeiras, the fan movement highlighted Jefferson's trajectory, stating that "there is more than money" and referring to the story of someone who, according to the incomplete text, apparently represents values that go beyond financial matters.
