Tiago Cabaço Winery, in Estremoz, secured on September 5 a place in the Grand Final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, in the 21st Century category. The qualification was announced during the National Semi-Final held at the National Palace of Sintra, in a gala broadcast live by TVI.

The Alentejo winery reached this stage as the representative of the Alentejo and Ribatejo region, after being qualified at the Regional Final held in Santarém. In the semi-final, it competed with six other candidates: Casa das Mudas, in Madeira; Centro Interpretativo do Vulcão dos Capelinhos, in the Azores; Terminal de Cruzeiros de Leixões, in Matosinhos; Museu do Azeite, in Oliveira do Hospital; Portimão Arena; and Escola Superior de Setúbal.

The candidacy of Tiago Cabaço Winery highlights the contemporary architecture of the building, designed partially underground to preserve freshness and establish a relationship with the surrounding vineyard. From the tasting room there is a visual connection to Estremoz Castle, Serra d'Ossa and Evoramonte, integrating the infrastructure into the wine landscape of the region.

With this result, the Estremoz winery now joins the group of 21 candidates who will compete in the Grand National Final, three in each of the seven categories. The decision is scheduled for September 12, when the seven winners of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal will be announced.

BPI in Angola. More than three decades of a "beautiful story" that yielded many profits

BPI is about to leave the Angolan market after more than three decades, selling the 33.35% it held in Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA) to Grupo Carrinho for approximately 388.5 million euros. The exit was forced by the European Central Bank in 2014, which required the reduction of exposure to Angola. The initial investment of three million euros generated returns exceeding one billion, including dividends, sales of stakes to Unitel and capital gains. The stake was progressively reduced to the current 33.35%, with the now agreed sale marking the end of a presence that was profitable but conditioned by regulatory obligations.

Pix sets record for transactions settled in a single day

Pix achieved a new daily record for settled transactions last Friday, with 318 million operations totaling R$ 186.89 million, surpassing the previous record from December. The average value per transaction was R$ 587.58. The milestone occurs amid international controversy, as the Brazilian Central Bank's instant payment system is being used by the United States as an argument to justify a 25% surcharge on Brazilian exports, under the claim that Pix harms American companies by being operated and regulated by the Brazilian government. The Central Bank president, Gabriel Galípolo, rebutted the criticism and defended the system.
