A German tourist named Xenia Denise was insulted and had water thrown in her face by a carriage driver in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, after asking him to give water to a horse that appeared to be suffering from the heat. The incident was filmed and generated backlash on social media. The city government opened an investigation into the driver's behavior after the images were shared.
The argument occurred at a carriage stop on Calle Conquistador. In the images, the tourist appears near the animal and repeatedly asks the carriage driver to give her water to offer to the horse. The man, however, reacts aggressively, hurls insults at the woman, and then throws water in her face.
According to the tourist, the carriage driver also touched her face during the argument. She also stated that she suffered verbal and physical abuse from the driver. The case has reignited the debate about the treatment of horses used in tourist carriages in the region, which are frequently exposed to high temperatures during the summer months.
