Operation Sagrada Caça, carried out by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in conjunction with the Military Police of Piauí, resulted in the seizure of wood, wild birds and firearms in seven municipalities in the state. The operation also resulted in the application of fines and arrests.
The seizures took place in the municipalities of Picos, Simplício Mendes, Bela Vista do Piauí, Paes Landim, Vera Mendes, Colônia do Piauí and São Julião. The actions are part of an effort to combat environmental crimes in the region.
During the operation, fines were applied to identified offenders. In addition to the seizures of wood and animals, firearms were also taken out of circulation. Several people were arrested during the actions.
The operation aims to curb illegal practices such as predatory hunting, illegal logging and trafficking of wild animals in the southwestern region of Piauí.
