A fire broke out at a toy store in the basement of Mercadão de Madureira, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Saturday afternoon (4). The fire started around 1:30 PM and was initially controlled by the store's own employees, before the firefighters arrived. There were no injuries in the incident.
The Fire Department from the Campinho station was called to the scene on Avenida Ministro Edgard Romero. About 20 military personnel and four vehicles are participating in the operation, working on smoke exhaustion and overhaul, with access to the store's stock located in the basement.
Customers and shop owners from Mercadão de Madureira were evacuated preventively during the incident response. According to the administration of the shopping center, the materials involved, including plastic products and plush toys, produced smoke during the fire.
