Thousands of Croats demonstrated today in Zagreb to demand accountability for the illegal dumping of waste in the country. The protesters demand that authorities investigate and punish those responsible for this situation.
According to available information, between 2022 and 2025, up to 45,000 tonnes of waste were illegally dumped in Croatia. The waste includes electronic materials, medical and plastic waste, which were imported from other countries specifically to be buried in Croatian territory.
The location where the waste was dumped is near a natural park, which increases environmental concerns. The demonstrators want guarantees that the impact on the environment and public health will be minimized.
The protest comes following revelations about this illegal operation of importing and dumping waste, which reportedly involved companies and possibly local authorities. The population demands transparency and concrete actions to resolve the situation.
