Kiev and Moscow suspend air attacks during negotiations with Trump's envoys

Expresso5 September 2026 at 18:08

President Zelensky announced on Saturday the suspension of Ukrainian air attacks against Russia, in an attempt to create favorable conditions for negotiations mediated by President Trump's envoys. This decision comes as a goodwill gesture to facilitate the negotiation process.

The suspension ordered by Zelensky occurred hours after Putin ordered a similar pause by Russian forces, indicating a coordinated effort by both sides to reduce hostilities during the negotiation period.

American representatives are currently in Moscow for meetings with Russian officials and are preparing to travel later to Kiev, where they are expected to meet with Ukrainian representatives.

The two suspensions of air attacks create a window of opportunity for negotiations mediated by the United States, which intends to find a solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
