Açoriano Oriental5 September 2026 at 16:32

The islands of Faial and Pico will host, on Monday and Tuesday, two public sessions dedicated to Azorean participation in tuna fishing in the Eastern Pacific. The Azores Government was responsible for announcing these initiatives.

The sessions will address two distinct aspects of Azorean participation in this fishing activity. One of them is the scientific aspect, which involves research and studies related to tuna fishing in that Pacific region.

The other aspect is historical, which documents the role of the Azores and its fishermen in exploring this fishing activity in the Eastern Pacific. This historical component allows recognizing and preserving the memory of the Azorean contribution to this sector.

These public sessions represent an opportunity for the community to better understand the historical and scientific connection of the Azores with tuna fishing in the Eastern Pacific, highlighting the importance of this archipelago in the global fishing industry.
