The party Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), through its member of parliament Filipe Sousa, presented in the Assembly of the Republic a Bill that aims to create the National Scheme for Compensation of Overcosts of Maritime Transport of Goods.
The proposal aims to compensate the additional costs of maritime transport of goods between the Portuguese mainland and the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores, operating in both directions.
The bill also covers specific inter-island transport situations, that is, between the islands themselves that make up the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores.
This measure comes with the objective of reducing the cost of living in the autonomous regions, compensating for the overcosts associated with the transport of goods by sea that are often reflected in the prices paid by consumers in these regions.
