PATRIOTIC FRONT VERSION 2027

Folha 85 September 2026 at 16:14

The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) reiterated during the IV Ordinary Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission its bet on gathering the opposition in a broad Patriotic Front for the alternation of power in Angola, in the 2027 elections. The commitment was reaffirmed in the final communiqué of the meeting, which took place on Friday in the province of Uíge.

The party led by Adalberto Costa Júnior thus maintains the strategy of uniting the opposition forces to face the MPLA, the party that has governed Angola for decades. This patriotic front has already demonstrated strength in the 2022 elections, when it managed to elect 90 deputies to the National Assembly.

However, this result still fell short of the 124 deputies elected by the MPLA in the same elections, which shows that the task of achieving the alternation of power remains a significant challenge for the Angolan opposition. UNITA understands that the consolidation of this broad front is essential for the 2027 elections.
