The municipalities in Piauí were responsible for financing a significant portion of expenses with Medium and High Complexity procedures in the health sector. Of the total of these expenses, 41.1% were funded directly with their own resources from the Piauí municipal treasuries.
In addition to their own resources, 55.9% of expenses with Medium and High Complexity were funded through transfers from other government entities, showing the municipalities' dependence on federal and state resources to cover these costs.
Linked resources, which are those with a specific destination defined by legislation, represented only 3% of the total expenses in this area of complexity of the municipal health system.
This data demonstrates the significant financial effort of municipalities in Piauí to maintain higher complexity health services, even with the limited availability of their own resources and the dependence on external transfers to complement the funding.
