A show by director Marco Martins will mark the opening of the European Capital of Culture (ECC) Évora_27 on February 6, 2027. The performance, with around 400 participants between professional and amateur artists, will take place at Rossio de São Brás, the largest public space in Évora, at the gates of the historic city center, where requalification works are currently underway.

The show, with a "great musical, visual and choreographic leaning", is based on the theme of Vagar, a typically Alentejo expression that serves as the motto for ECC Évora_27. The event features artists such as Portuguese Carminho, Colombian Lucrecia Dalt, Iranian Mohammad Reza Mortazavi and Spanish Yeray Cortés, as well as people from cultural associations in the region.

Director Marco Martins, who leads the theatrical platform Arena Ensemble, has already toured the region meeting with cultural agents and associations to gather inspiration and information. The work also involves Marco da Silva Ferreira in choreographic collaboration, Celina da Piedade in musical research accompaniment, and a set design created by architects Manuel Aires Mateus, João Romão and artist Isabel Cordovil.

The total investment for the creation, production and presentation of the show is 609,756 euros, plus VAT, a contract signed between Associação Évora 2027 and Arena Ensemble. The organization predicts that between 30 to 40 thousand people may attend the presentation, with free entry.
