A man in his 50s died last Thursday during Burning Man, a libertarian counterculture festival that takes place in the Black Rock desert, in Nevada, United States. The event brings together tens of thousands of people on the "playa," a temporary city built in the desert for the festival, which lasts eight days and ends on September 7. The organization reported that the victim suffered a "medical emergency" and received emergency care before being taken to the festival's own medical unit.
The death occurs amid heavy rains and mud that continue to disrupt the event. In last year's edition, Russian Vadim Kruglov, 37, was stabbed to death in the festival area while the large sculpture that gives the event its name was being burned, and the case remains unsolved.
