Fuel price increases. Farmers consider support insufficient

RTP Notícias5 September 2026 at 13:20

Fuel prices are set to increase significantly at the start of the week, with diesel per liter becoming 10.5 cents more expensive and gasoline rising by 8.5 cents. This increase represents a new all-time high, as fuel has never been so expensive.

Farmers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the support measures announced by the government. Despite the increased discount on ISP (Imposto Sobre os Produtos Petrolíferos / Excise Duty on Petroleum Products), agricultural producers consider these measures insufficient to cope with the increase in production costs.

Calculations have already been made taking into account the increased ISP tax discount, which means that even with this support measure, the impact on consumer prices will be significant. The situation is worrying for the agricultural sector, which faces increased pressure on its operational costs.
