Half of young people have already faced hate messages online. What is at stake?

CNN Portugal5 September 2026 at 12:39

Half of young people have already faced hate messages online, according to data from the EU Kids Online 2025 report. The study analyses the risks that children and young people face with access to social media and the internet in general.

Susana Batista, one of the coordinators of this report, was invited to explain the main dangers identified. EU Kids Online is a European research network that regularly studies how children use technology and the associated risks.

The 2025 report comes in a context where young people's access to digital platforms has been increasing significantly, making it urgent to understand and mitigate the negative impacts of exposure to harmful content online.

The coordination of the study by Susana Batista allows for the interpretation of the collected data and the identification of patterns of behaviour and exposure of young people to risk situations in the digital environment.

It's probably the ugliest shirt in the world... but it can make you "invisible" to AI's eyes

Researchers have developed a shirt printed with specific patterns that, although considered visually unpleasant, manages to "fool" visual recognition artificial intelligence systems, making the person theoretically "invisible" to AI-equipped cameras. The trick doesn't involve magic or real invisibility, but rather the exploitation of vulnerabilities in computer vision algorithms, exploring how these neural networks process and interpret visual patterns in ways that differ from human perception.

C++ on macOS: how to compile native code and which language to choose

Developing in C++ on macOS is accessible thanks to Apple Clang and LLVM integration, allowing quick setup via Command Line Tools without needing the full Xcode. The environment offers native compilation for ARM64 and exclusive tools like xcrun, otool, and LLDB, although it presents differences compared to Linux, such as the Mach-O format and incompatibilities with specific GNU libraries. The article highlights that, despite Swift being the preferred language for new Apple applications, C++ remains essential for high-performance contexts and can interoperate with Swift, ensuring flexibility for developers.

Manufacturers warn: do not put hot food in the refrigerator and these are the reasons

Appliance manufacturers such as Bosch and LG warn that placing very hot food in the refrigerator can compromise the appliance's efficiency and food safety. When hot food is introduced, the interior temperature rises quickly, forcing the compressor to work longer to recover the cold, which increases energy consumption. Additionally, the steam and moisture released can cause condensation and ice formation. The recommendation is to let food cool briefly, divide it into small, shallow containers, and refrigerate it within a maximum of two hours to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms in the temperature danger zone.
