Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez, 38, a keyboardist and founding member of the indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, was found shot dead inside a luxury penthouse in Atizapán de Zaragoza, on the outskirts of Mexico City. The crime occurred on Tuesday night, according to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico. In addition to him, his pregnant wife Ana Paola, 35, the couple's 3-year-old daughter, nanny Aleida Romero Victorio, 21, and the family's dog were also killed. The couple's 6-year-old son was the only survivor and was found unharmed at the property.
According to authorities, Jonathan Meléndez and his wife, who was approximately four months pregnant, had been bound with duct tape at the time of the crime. All four human victims suffered gunshot wounds, with three of them being shot in the head. The investigation points to the involvement of someone close to the family in the crime.
Nanny Aleida Romero Victorio, 21, was killed in the same incident. In an interview with CNN, her aunt mourned the crime, describing the young woman as a very hardworking and responsible girl. The case is being investigated by Mexican authorities, who are still working to clarify the motives behind the attack and identify all those responsible.
