Augusto Boal revisited: exhibition and two plays, in Gávea and Botafogo, honor the playwright, creator of the Theatre of the Oppressed

The playwright Augusto Boal, who died in 2009 and created the Theatre of the Oppressed, is remembered again in Rio de Janeiro in September with two theatrical productions and an exhibition. Boal was one of the main figures in the construction of a genuinely Brazilian and Latin American theatre, and his legacy is now being rescued in different spaces of the city.

In Gávea, the play "Hamlet 16x8" revisits the playwright's life from his autobiography "Hamlet and the Baker's Son: Imagined Memories." In Botafogo, "Revolution in South America," written about 60 years ago, returns to the stages retelling the story of a worker searching for food, finding in the current production echoes of issues that remain present in the country.

At the Planetarium, an exhibition with photographs and posters helps recover the scope of a career that went beyond Brazilian borders, highlighting the international importance of Boal's work in the theatrical and social fields.
